Machine Readable Passport

The Government of Pakistan has introduced Five(5) and Ten(10) years validity Machine Readable Passports (MRP) incorporating special security features designed to check human trafficking and forgery. It contains digitally printed personal data with a photograph in the bar code. Valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) or Computerized Registration Certificate (CRC) or the National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistani (NICOP) original is mandatory for issuance of the Machine Readable Passport (MRP). The issuance of passport is directly complementing the government's efforts to increase the number of people in database and in improvement of the overall governance of the country.

Procedures
  • Fee is non refundable
  • Deposit fee at counter. (With Credit/Debit card or Mony order/Cahsier Check Payable to "Embassy of Pakistan")
  • If payment is made through Credit/Debit card additional service charges will be included
  • Present fee receipt and Pakistani Identity (CNIC or NICOP), Pakistani Passport, Documents with Photocopies for issuance of token and Digital photo capture (without eye glasses).
  • No need of any form and photograph.
  • No need to make an appointment. Process is based on “First Come First Served Basis”.
  • MRP can't be issued or renewed in mail or through a representative.
  • Proof of legal residence status in the US (copy of Green Card / US Passport/ visa/ Work authorization)
  • Digital fingerprint capture.
  • Data Entry (Please Read Data Form carefully and signe).
  • Interview and DATA Varification by MRP Officer.
  • No amendment/modification is permissible in Machine Readable Passport. The Applicant should apply for a new Passport.
  • If date of birth in CNIC is 1965, in MRP it will be treated as 1/1/1965.
Required Photocopies
  • Please read the requirements for photocopies for each type of application and bring/send the required number of copies with the application.
  • For the convenience of the applicants, a copier machine at the Consular Section is available, which takes 25 cents (quarters) coins or one dollars bills only.

Requirements for Machine Readable Passport (New or renewal)
  • Personal appearance of the applicant(s).
  • Original Valid NICOP/CNIC along with a photocopy.
  • Original latest Pakistani passport along with a photocopy.
  • Proof of legal residence status in the US (copy of Green Card / US Passport/ visa/ Work authorization)
  • No Objection Certificate for Government servants.
Note:
  • If the applicant is under 18 years of age then copies of father and mother CNIC/NICOP
  • Married Female should have Husband's Name on her CNIC/NICOP. Otherwise Father's Name will be written on MRP.
Requirements for Lost Machine Readable Passport
  • Personal appearance of the applicant(s).
  • Detailed Police Report in original.
  • Original Valid NICOP/CNIC along with a photocopy.
  • Photocopy/Number of Lost Pakistani passport.
  • Proof of legal residence status in the US (copy of Green Card / US Passport/ visa/ Work authorization)
  • No Objection Certificate for Government servants.
Note:
  • For third time lost passport approval from Directorate General Immigration and Passports will be obtained.
  • Passport will be issued only after confirmation of lost Passport from the Passport issuing authority.
Processing Time
  • Urgent 2-3 Weeks.
  • Regular 3-4 Weeks.
Delivery of Machine Readable Passport
  • The delivery of passport can be delayed from prescribed time as passports are printed and dispatched from Pakistan.
  • You can check the status of your MRP on our Online Tracking System.
  • Passports are available for pickup by the applicants or authorized person.
  • A self addressed USPS Express mail envelope is required for delivery by mail to addressee.
Return Express USPS Envelope
  • If the applicant(s) would like their passport to be sent back to them, a self addressed prepaid express USPS envelope is mandatory. The applicant should write their return address clearly to avoid confusion. Current cost for the prepaid express envelope is $24.70. Do not use Metered stamps. Click here for US Postal Services
  • The Embassy of Pakistan, Washington D.C will not be responsible for loss of documents in the mail sent by ordinary/priority mail.
